THE PHYSICS OF AN UNSTOPPABLE DAY

Every month, my 2026 calendar — Quantum Happiness — turns to a new theme. This
month, it is Harmony. And most people think harmony means agreement. It doesn’t.
It means something far more powerful — and it turns out to be one of the most
beautiful ideas in all of physics.

Some days, you are unstoppable.

The words land. The decisions come clean. People say yes. Time seems to bend a
little in your favour, and effort feels almost unnecessary.

And some days — same you, same skill, same hours in it — you are just noise.

You have probably blamed sleep. Or coffee. Or luck. Or the mood you woke up in.

It was none of those. It was coherence.

Let me show you the most beautiful demonstration of this in all of physics.

Take an ordinary light bulb. Now take a laser. The laser is not carrying more energy
than the bulb — sometimes it carries far less. A bulb can light a room. A laser can cut
through steel.

Same photons. Same energy. One difference.

In the bulb, the light waves are scattered — each one rising and falling in its own
direction, cancelling the others out. In the laser, every wave rises and falls together.
Peak to peak. Trough to trough. Perfectly aligned.

Nothing was added to make the laser. The waves simply stopped working against
each other.

The difference between a bulb and a laser is not power.

It is alignment.

And you are made of exactly the same physics.

On a scattered day, your thoughts are pulling one way, your words another, your
actions a third. Somewhere underneath, what you believe and what you are doing
have quietly stopped speaking to each other. And just like the bulb, all that energy
goes into cancelling itself out.

That is why you can end such a day exhausted, having achieved almost nothing. You
were not lazy. You were interfering with yourself. Your own energy spent the whole
day working against its own grain.

This is worth sitting with, because we treat that exhaustion as a personal failing. It is
not a failing.

It is wave mechanics.

A divided self is a weak self — for precisely the reason a bulb cannot cut steel.

The ancients understood this long before we had the word for it.

The Rig Veda — the oldest text we have — closes on this exact instruction. Not in the
middle. At the very end, as its final word to humanity:

Saṅgacchadhvaṁ saṁvadadhvaṁ.

Move together. Speak together. Let your minds arrive at one accord.

We read it as a prayer for community, and it is. But read it again as a prayer for the
self — because a single human being is already a crowd. There is the one who wants
to rest and the one who wants to rise. The one who fears and the one who dares.
The one who remembers and the one who dreams.

Most days these voices argue.

Coherence is the day they finally agree.

And it doesn’t stop at you. When two people are truly aligned, they become capable
of things that neither talent nor numbers can explain. The same is true of a family, a
team, a nation.

A great team isn’t great because of who’s in it. It’s great because they move as one —
like the laser, not the bulb.

I know this state intimately, because I have spent my life learning to enter it
deliberately.

In Kathak, we call it being in Laya.

Laya is often translated as tempo, but it is closer to a continuous thread — the
current of time running through the dance. A dancer out of Laya is working furiously
and arriving nowhere: fighting the beat, forcing the moment, sweating against time
itself.

A dancer in Laya does less, and it lands with more force.

While dancing in Laya- I am not fighting time. I am riding it. Nothing in me is working
against anything else, and so all of me is available at once. What the audience feels,
and calls grace, is not effort at all.

It is the absence of internal interference.

And there is a further door, for anyone who has felt it. When a person becomes truly
coherent — thought, word, body, breath all in one accord — something strangehappens. They stop feeling separate from the moment they are in. The line between the dancer and the dance dissolves. Athletes call it the zone. Mystics have called it union. The physics is the same: when you stop interfering with yourself, you also stop interfering with everything around you, and for a moment you are simply part of the current instead of fighting upstream in it.

That is not a mystical claim. It is the felt experience of coherence, and every tradition
that ever mapped the interior arrived at the same place by a different road.

So the next time you have one of those heavy, scattered days, I would offer you a
different question than the one we usually ask.

The question is not “why am I so tired.”

The question is: where am I interfering with myself?

Which thought is quietly arguing with which action? Where the thing you are doing
and the thing you believe have stopped moving together ?

Because you are not short of power.

You have never, for one day of your life, been short of power.

You are a laser, running as a bulb.

And the only thing standing between the two is alignment !
