Dubai Built More Than a Skyline. What Education 33 Is Really Building…
Dubai is not remarkable because it built tall buildings. Many cities build tall buildings.
Dubai is remarkable because it built a mindset.
A stretch of sand became a global city because someone could see what was not yet visible — and had the discipline to turn vision into systems.
That, to me, is the real story of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Not only leadership – but A certain architecture of thinking.
Before he became the ruler who built Dubai into a global force, he was also a poet who published under pen names — Nedawi, Saleet — so that his words would be judged on merit, not lineage.
That detail says more than any official biography could. Because a mind willing to let the work face truth before the name receives praise has already learnt what most education systems still struggle to teach:
Humility. Self-honesty. Discipline. Courage.
Is that not education? – Not the kind printed in textbooks.
The kind written into character.
And today, as Dubai moves forward with Education 33 under the leadership of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum – who writes his own poetry under the name ‘Fazza’ – the one who rushes to help !
— I feel the question is no longer only: How do we make children academically ready?
The deeper question is: How do we make them humanly future-ready?
I have spent the past three decades as a teacher, a Kathak guru. But I did not only teach Kathak. I transformed Kathak and used it as a language to understand discipline, emotion, behaviour, identity, performance, healing, awareness and the deeper mechanics of the human being.
And from that journey, I have come to believe this strongly:
Curriculum is important. But curriculum is not enough.
Whether it is IB, IGCSE, CBSE or any national system, textbooks everywhere carry three silent gaps.
Some content is outdated. Some content has been challenged or disproven. And some of the most important subjects of human life are still missing…
Children are being trained to compute, code, analyse, compete and use AI. Important, yes. But not enough.
What must now be trained is the operating system beneath intelligence.
A clear mind. A clean conscience. Emotional precision. Self-discipline.
Gratitude. Resilience. Awareness Connection with nature and the laws of life.
Understanding of the subconscious mind. Responsibility towards family, society and nation. And a hunger to become better than yesterday’s self.
This is not “extra”. This is the foundation. Because the future will not only need smart children. It will need stable children.
- Children who do not malfunction under pressure.
- Children who can feel deeply without collapsing emotionally.
- Children who can succeed without losing ethics.
- Children who can innovate without disconnecting from their roots, their conscience, their country and the Creator.
This is where I believe ancient knowledge systems have something extraordinary to offer modern education.
Take the Navarasa — the Nine emotional states. The Navarasa is a science of emotions. A grammar of feeling.
- A child who can recognise what they feel has begun to understand the self.
- A child who can regulate what they feel has begun to build strength.
- A child who knows when to feel courage, compassion, wonder, restraint, love, peace or righteous anger begins to carry an inner compass.
That is education.
Through Natya Yoga® and Conscience Coaching®, I have seen how a good conversation, movement, rhythm, breath, sound, stillness and reflection can clear emotional noise, strengthen conscience, improve self-evaluation and bring people back to their centre. – For adults, it repairs. For children, it can build.
So why should we repair people at forty when we can build them better at five? If education only produces marks, the return is limited.
If education produces clarity, character, creativity, conscience and emotional intelligence, that is generational ROI.
So here is my question for the future of education: What if conscience was not a moral science lecture, but a psychologically curated daily practice?
- What if discipline was not punishment, but alignment?
- What if gratitude was not a quote on the wall, but a way of living?
- What if emotional intelligence was not one workshop, but part of the rhythm of every school day?
- What if children were not only prepared for careers, but formed for clarity, responsibility and inner excellence?
Dubai has already shown the world that the future is not predicted.
It is designed.
Perhaps the next frontier is not only to design smarter cities. It is to design stronger human beings.
